Dr John Jenkins

John is a historian who works primarily in the field of late-medieval English society and religion. His doctoral work was on the impact of rural monasteries on society in medieval Devon. He has published on the limitations of episcopal power and the role of monasteries in the Hundred Years War, and has articles in the pipeline on scholastic heresy, and a comparison of the early Franciscans and Buddhists.

Before joining the Pilgrimage and Cathedrals team, John taught at the University of Oxford for a number of years. Outside of medieval history, his interests include cricket, the travails of Torquay United, and sausages.
